New Mahogany Doors!
Hello, welcome to another blog post, I have been very busy this summer doing improvements to Casa De Compai !! When I purchased the property 4 years ago, which was to become Casa De Compai, the first thing I did was raise the perimeter wall two more feet. Then I installed the the pool, then I designed and rehabbed the first three units. Condo 1&2 are both studios, and condo 3 is the two bedroom. Coming out of the gate 3 years ago I was able to develop a very good reputation for the quality of my rentals. That has been the cornerstone of my business plan to date. What I have learned from living in the Caribbean is that a lot of, if not most owner neglect the proper maintenance of their investments . That just boggles my mind. These same owners don’t improve their properties either. My belief is the minute you stand still, you start to go backwards. I will out work and out spend my competition to maintain my edge in the market place for vacation condo rentals.
Ok so enough of thumping my written chest, so where am I going with this. New mahogany entrance doors on the first three original condos !! The one thing that my guests love , (and myself even more) is the amount of mahogany thats in all of my units. My kitchens, bathrooms, and furniture are all made from mahogany and finished with granite. As my guests come through the gate onto the property I demand a wow factor, I get that from the flora, and then again just as they enter their rental as they see the entrance doors. That is usually followed by a wow as they see the inside of the condos. So what makes these doors so special? First they are solid mahogany! There is no cheaper pine used a filler. This is obvious as soon as the doors are swung open. The weight of them is proof of that. What this does is also helps in added security. People just fell secure knowing they have a solid door with double locks. Even though it will probably never be tested, ( I have 24/7 security and video cameras) its still a piece of mind. The other benefit its a nice sound blocker.
Each door is 3 inches thick and mounted on a matching frame. Every door is custom built by a wonder company out of Puerta Plata.I would hire this company ahead of most other companies that I would use back in N.J. When I designed Casa De Compai I wanted a simple but classy and elegant look with a feel that was functional. So I used simple lines. The doors are set in the traditional box frame that gives the door its strength. For the inside of the door I didn’t want a window or any other accent feature, instead I wanted privacy for the guests. I decided of using different horizontal panels held together with a common tongue and grove joint. By using different panels for different boards of mahogany I was able to capture different grain patters and colors of the wood. This gives each door an unique look and an individual character. No two doors look the same!!!
I love the natural look of mahogany, with out any stain to provide color. If you are not famialar with this tropical wood it has a tighter grain patter and its darkens over time naturally. It’s a beautiful wood. To enhance the character of the grain pattern and different colors, I had the doors finished with a clear semi gloss sealer. Then last thing was the door hardware. I strongly dislike round door knobs. I believe paddle door handles look so much more classier. The last thing I did was install a matching dead bolt. The end result was having all entrance door the same, and increasing the value of Casa De Compai. I am very happy with the growth of the property and I believe my guests do as well.
