Wow, its been a while since I wrote my last blog post. There is a reason for that, I have been so busy with maintenance and upgrades at Casa De Compai. Plus I started another project with my very good friend , ( thats another blog post ) and this project really took up a lot of my free time. So, while I am waiting for a check in by a new Client from New York, ( welcome Larry )I decided to write about my latest upgrade that will set me apart from every other condo complex.

When I designed Casa De Compai I wanted the best tv I could get. At that time I was limited on my choices. I couldn’t get high speed internet at an affordable price. The local cable company had out dated technology that I didn’t want to use. Plus this same cable company had its competition blocked from the Sosua market. This left me very little options. So the first thing I needed to do was acquire the amount of internet I wanted. I wanted to have a 100 megabits of internet speed just for Casa De Compai. The reason for this amount of speed was I was hoping I would have enough bandwidth for each condo. In each condo I installed a wifi just for that unit and provided private 5 megabits of internet. Ialso installed two hotspots on the property as well. The reason for this was to have redundancy in case a condo had a wifi failure and to provide internet around the pool.

The second reason was to use the internet was to provide tv. This is a wonderful option, the technology is available to provide the service so I installed an internet tv box on every tv I have. I personally enjoy this feature and I was sure my clients would as well. Guess what, I was wrong. The things I didn’t know is that half my cliental wouldn’t have the desire or patience to learn how to use the internet tv. The issue is, you have a go through a process to be able to stream movies or tv shows. I thought the opportunity to watch any tv show or movie at any time would be a wonderful success. The other drawback, that I was unaware of was, trying to stream live tv, sports and news for example isn’t very good. It would buffer often or just not load at all. What I wished I had done, was listen to myself and doubled the bandwidth as soon as the issue of buffering started. This would had helped the situation right away. Instead I listen to people who used this platform longer than I andI kept each tv at 5 megabits. As soon as I doubled the speed to 10 megabits this issue resolved itself. I still wanted to have another option for more reliable tv. The local cable company started to install fiber optic cable in Sosua , what timing. So in September of 2018 I contracted my buddy who is the salesman and we set up an installation date. I was so happy to get this issue completed, but not looking forward to the process. If you ever had done any kind of construction you understand nothing goes according to plan. I was hoping we could not touch the cat5 cable used for internet and tv while we install the thin fiber optic cable in the same tube. Nope, not going to happen. I was hoping it would be a quick installation, especially because all but 2 units were not rented. Plus the next months there wasn’t any weeks that I wasn’t highly booked. So it was go time. The first unit we tried to do the installation on it was obvious we had to change plans. I was a lineman for Verizon for 12 years. I pulled in miles of fiber optic cable in duct work. The installers learned after 20 minutes they couldn’t give me a song and dance, they realized I had more knowledge than they did. So what we ended up having to de was pull out the cat5 cable while pulling in a piece of strong rope in the correct size for the tube. Then we used the rope to pull in the fiber optic and the cat5 cable at the same time. After the cable was in place we installed the correct fittings for each cable and connect them to the tvs. Now my clients just have to change input on the tv to have a choice of different tv platforms.

The goal I wanted to achieve is to have the best options for tv anywhere on the North Coast. I have accomplished just that. I am very proud to say my clients can watch internet tv that gives them any tv show or movie when ever they want. Then they can use the fiber optic system to watch tv like they are accustom to.
