  • As a very frequent traveler to the Dominican Republic, I have been staying here for a while now and have to say that the room I stayed in was amazing. I loved the room, space, amenities, huge refrigerator, and the fact that you don't have to get a whole bunch of supplies to maintain a good clean room. The location is great and good security too.

  • I cannot begin to express my appreciation for the fact that everything was exactly as presented online. These condo's are fantastic. John provides excellent accomodations that are second to none. Security made me feel comfortable and safe, which was very important to me. The condo was clean and well maintained. This is an excellent alternative to staying in a hotel.

  • Accommodations: completely as advertised, if not understated on their advertisement, everything you would want for a stress-free, smooth and enjoyable stay. New comfortable, clean, apartment studio with kitchen, ac, cable, swimming pool, 24 hr (friendly) security. Close enough for short walk to downtown but just far enough if you want to relax by the pool 'tranquilo'. Hospitality: Both the owner and manager are very welcoming and friendly, i dont want to set expectations for future guests but when i stayed they invited me for barbecues and nights outs and I was happy to join, hope to see you guys soon..

  • Had a good time at this place. Villa is walking distance to night life, and restaurants, it's private, guest friendly and electricity even works during occasional blackouts on the island. Owner is helpful and experienced about the area. My stay here was stress free. I would stay here again

  • The facility was immaculate and the staff inviting. Location is 2 blocks from main strip and 8 minute walk to the classicos area. Had no problem getting around without a car rental. A/Cs keep the room chilly and plenty of fans. Appliances are brand new. Linens ard clean, washer dryer on sight for light packers, and plenty of spare towels. Look forward to staying again.

  • I stayed at this tucked away gem for a week. Had a personal driver pick me up from the airport, he gave a tour of the town on the way to the casa! Casa de compai is centrally located, near the bars. It is a quiet little hideaway with a great pool. Staff was always avaliable the beds were very comfortable and the accommodation all modern! If you are a person who wants to interact with the people and experience their culture this is the place for you. Close to the beach, activities and great restaurants! Great time for someone who likes other cultures, if you like all inclusive probably not for you.

  • First of all I want to make sure I am very clear about John and his property; no matter what you read, hear from him or via the web it is an understatement. Casa De Compai is literally a diamond in the ruff right near everything you need. With only being 3 minutes walking distance from the popular Europa Bar, Sosua Lights nightclub, Super Pola Marketplace, and Caribe money exchange you cannot go wrong. In addition to the rooms and amenities is the atmosphere, but what really sells this place is the location of the property and the professionalism of the owner, staff, guest, and more importantly the quietness of the surrounding area. I can't explain it, but once you walk inside the gate it's like you are not even in Sosua. It's really like you are at home, or at a resort just enjoying the weather, overlooking the pool, and drinking a beer (which I still owe John by the way). What I need you to know is I take things very seriously when it comes to spending my money. Before deciding on Casa De Compai I thoroughly did my research on the property and owner. I checked out the AirBnb reviews, (Hidden by Airbnb) , TripAdvisor, (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps, his website, and blog before deciding to even consider spending my money and doing business with him. Mind you the stay was not breaking the bank or anything, but this is how seriously I take doing business with someone regardless of the amount. Even after all this I was not sold. What sold me was when I actually met John. Aside from the property being excellent; the fact that John showed sincerity, appreciation for and toward his employees goes to show you the true character of a person. In addition the great things his employees said about him were out of this world. They truly valued him as an employer and had nothing, but great things to say that further added my conviction that I was vacationing at the right property. Here is really the part that shows character. John personally drove me to the Super Pola market, took me to the Caribe money exchange, showed me where the gym was located, and also gave me a rundown of the strip, bars, clubs, beaches and places to get good food. Now please understand that this is not included in the package, but the fact that he was so passionate and even willing goes to show a great deal on his character, which you visually see in and on the property. It’s really a part of him, but as I said don’t expect to be chauffeured. I was just at the right place at the right time. You may notice in this review I do not speak much on the insides of the unit or accommodations. The truth is there is no point because as I said the pictures, reading John’s descriptions, or even speaking to him will not do it justice. 
     While I was there I saw the pool being maintained and cleaned, beds getting additional support, and even when I wanted to have a farewell with John he was in Santiago handling business and purchasing items to add on and make the property better. He is the prime exactly that if you do what you love you will not have to work a day in your life. The only issue I ever encountered with the property was having to leave, but the great thing is I know I have a home when I come back to visit.

  • Muy buen apartamento en el centro, cerca de supermercados, restaurantes, bares y de la playa. La calle es tranquila, no hay mucho ruido, cerca de la calle principal y es muy seguro. Es nuevo apartamento amueblado, tiene todos los electrodomesticos. Tiene todos los servicios y funcionan muy bien (agua, luz, internet). Buen servicio y su propietario es muy amable.

  •   Stayed in John’s place for 11 days. Wouldn’t choose another place besides it. The price is unbelievable, especially for the quality of apartment john owns. Apartments are the same as pictured. Everything was within walking distance, I didn’t have any issues with water, electricity, or many other problems that present themselves at some of the other hotels/apartments in the area. John was always on call when needed and is sincerely just a really good guy. Don’t have any reservations on this location, you will enjoy your stay immensely.. it’s the only place i’ll be staying at for years to come in Sosua.

  •   We stayed at Casa de Compai for 3 weeks, end of Feb into March & enjoyed it thoroughly. The owner John is a great guy, made us feel like we've known him for ever. John's little companion named Shadow is an added bonus for us and we enjoyed her company. (John I hope you are still teaching her the paw trick! ? ?) John is knowledgeable about the area and very accommodating. This complex is small, consisting of 9 units; 2 studios, 1 two bedroom, & 6 brand new 1 bedroom units. John takes great pride ensuring everything is in tip top shape for all his clients. The complex is geared towards adults only. All the units are very well equipped with in room safe, ceiling fans, A/C, mahogany furniture, granite countertops, flat screen TV's and Security is excellent. There is a beautiful pool on site, sizable BBQ, close to the grocery stores and nearby restaurants/bars. You can walk everywhere in the town of Sosua. It's a short 10-12 min walk to all of the beaches. Laundry can be done on site for a small fee. Wifi is strong & free. Everything on John's website is accurate to the 'T'! We have already booked for next year for a month and are so, so looking forward to it. Can't wait to see both John & Shadow!

  •   If your looking for a safe, comfortable, reasonably priced, friendly environment this is a great little spot. Myself and a female friend stayed here and felt safe & relaxed. It is only a short walk to shopping, restaurants or entertainment. John, the onsite complex owner, is friendly, helpful, responsive to questions and enjoys sharing information about the area. He takes pride in keeping the property in excellent condition. The company of his little dog, Shadow, was a very enjoyable bonus. The accommodation is exactly as described and shown.

  • A Truly Great Place to Stay!

    I had the pleasure of staying at Casa de Compai in one of the studio apartments for a couple of weeks this past January. All the units have fully equipped kitchens for preparing meals, granite countertops, mahogany cabinetry and furniture. They're all nicely decorated. It was important to me to have a place with screens on the windows, cross ventilation and ceiling fans. All the units have these things as well air conditioning! It was great to have hot water at all times and uninterrupted electrical service thanks to the back-up generator on the premises. The WiFi connection was fast and reliable. There are new flat screen TVs in all the units with a huge selection of channels. Maid service which is provided once a week includes fresh sheets and towels. Personal laundry service is available for a small fee. All the apartments have safes in them. If one were to have an issue with anything, which is highly unlikely, John would immediately address it. He is that kind of person. His love for his condo complex and for Shadow, his sweet doggie girl is so, so apparent. The condos are within walking distance to the beautiful beach at Playa Sosua, to two grocery stores (Super Pola and Supermercado Playero), to nightlife, to restaurants, etc. A car is not necessary. The pool is quite nice; the location is quiet! As a solo traveler, I never felt uncomfortable nor unsafe as there is 24 hour security on the premises and John is always there as well. My plans are to spend the winter months next year at Casa de Compai. I found nothing I liked better in the area! Thank you John for a great stay! Donna R, Manchester Township, NJ

  • Amazing oasis in the middle of it all!

    What can I say, loved the place. 2 minute walk to bars/restaurants (30 seconds if you’re hungry or just can’t wait to get your hands on an ice-cold bottle of presidente). 5 minute walk to center of town...you’ll be happily distracted during that walk...and you can walk to the beaches. If you like to cook or have someone cook for you then you’ll love the mini kitchen...it’s all new, the whole place is new! And the swimming pool...spent the last hurricane chillin’ in the pool...crossing my fingers, doesn’t get any better...even Shadow, John’s dog, will take a floating ride on a pool chair, you’ll love the dog. Of course, to round it up, John’s a great host to throw back a few beers with and talk DR - and if you happen to get sick I know first-hand he’ll make sure you the medicine you need...thanks again for that John. Will be back in 2018.

  • Best Villa's in Sosua

    Hands down the best Villa rental in Sosua. Everything is new including the two big screen tv's. One in the bedroom and one in the living room. Centrally located, friendly staff, and very clean. The owner John showed us around and was very helpful. Had an abundance of hot water and brand new air conditioners. I Highly recommend Casa de Compai.

  • A Unique Oasis

    Quality at its best! Casa de Compai Condos are situated in a beautiful intimate setting, secure and tranquil. Delightfully furnished immaculate apartments, surrounding the impressively landscaped courtyard and pool area. John, the owner, has put his whole heart and soul into creating a home away from home, and so much more for all his guests. Each condo is fully equipped for you to have an extraordinary self catering vacation, as well as top of the line wifi and TV's with a ton of channels for when you just need to chill...literally.... in a fully air conditioned space. Yes, yes, yes, just love this place! Only wish it had been built sooner so that we could have hosted a family gathering here a number of years ago! I wouldn't have had to worry about a thing. My guests would have had everything they needed all in one spot. Of course its all about location and Casa De Compai is within easy walking distance of grocery stores, an abundance of cafe's, and restaurants, and of course the amazing Sosua Beach. Its also a short bus ride or taxi to the other famous kitesurfing Cabarete beach. John is a very kind, respectful, hands on owner,and its easy to see that he wants your stay to be the best experience. Would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here long or short term.

  • An Oasis of Tranquility

    I stayed the months of December 2017 an January 2018 at the Casa de Compai. I had developed a friendship with John (the owner) on a prior visit and we stayed in touch. I have been to Sosua several times and stayed at different hotels an condos in the past. So, when I returned on this visit I stayed at John's newest venture the Casa de Compai. The "Casa" as I like to refer to it is conveniently located. There is a new Supermarket, Pharmacy and Dollar Store within a 3 minute walk to the east. The night life and club's are within a 5 minute walk to the west. So the "Casa" is in a quiet residential neighborhood, but still within walking distance to anything you may need. For those of you that have never visited Sosua, the town is known for partying. This is great but when you leave the party atmosphere it's so nice to come home to tranquility. When you enter those big blue gates at the "Casa" it's Peaceful and Relaxing. John and his staff are absolutely amazing, they will go out of their way to make your stay Enjoyable, Safe and Relaxing. John is an American Patriot who loves America and he also loves his new "adopted" country the DR, just ask him he loves to talk about it:) I believe it's admirable that John has invested 100% in his dream. I've seen first hand the concern he has for his guests and employee's. You see that was the other part of John's dream, to provide good jobs to hard working people. Bottom line the "Casa" is Conveniently Located it's Clean, Safe and Secure. Great value for your money, give it a try you WON'T be disappointed!!!!

    Stayed here for one whole month in early 2018. The place is amazing! Casa de Compai is a condo complex consisting of nine units. Units 4-9 were recently finished in December 2017 and are thus brand new. They all share a pool with a shower and a BBQ as well as high-speed wifi, a power backup generator, a water filtration system and much more. Units 1-3 were finished in 2016, i believe, but are still state of the art. Unit 3, where i stayed for one month, is the biggest condo, with 2 bed rooms. I loved the place and can absolutely recommend it. Here are a couple of the reasons why: a) Location: The location is great as it's located directly at the end of the "party mile" of Sosua. You can walk anywhere but it's still quiet at night. To the center of the party mile in 5 minutes, to the main beach in 10 minutes, to a shopping mall with farmacy, supermarket, currency exchange and more within 3 minutes, to the next hospital (direction of Cabarete) in 8 minutes. Two banks within 3 minutes. A tip from me: Use banco progresso for withdrawing money, the daily maximum there is 30.000 DOP instead of the usual 10.000 and the fees are only 150 DOP. b) Security: The condo complex is gated with 24/7 security personnel. Each condo has a safe and the doors inside the condo are usually lockable, too. This condo #3 in particular has a balcony facing the street and the security guard. c) Furnishing: There are bed rooms, each with a queen sized bed, air conditioning, ceiling fan, TV and lots of room to store your things. One of the bedrooms has a safe. The kitchen resp. living room is spacious and has everything you need for preparing your own meals. d) The little extras: Each condo has a personal 5 mbps WiFi which is more than enough for streaming Netflix and the like. The TVs have a "Kodi" entertainment system with Live TV, Sports TV, Netflix, Youtube, Movies, TV Shows and much more. An on-site maid service can be purchased which will clean the condo for 700 DOP and do laundry for 50 DOP per pound. And if you're an animal person, the best extra is probably "Shadow", the adorable little black dog, that watches over the condo complex. e) Hospitality: This is what makes the place special for me. The owner, John Kumpel, is a great guy that goes out of his way to make his guests feel comfortable. He keeps busy but is always just a What sApp message away. I don't want to set expectations but he always had helpful advice on restaurants, beaches, shopping and other places to see. He even took me out a couple of times and arranged a BBQ for the guests. Especially if you are a rookie in this town, his advice is invaluable. I will surely be coming back.

    Stayed for ten days in Jan, it was the perfect location. Close to everything, so you can walk everywhere. The inside of the units have great confortable beds, fixtures, snd smazing bathrooms. The pool is perfrct for relaxing. We even a bbq one night with all the other guests. Tjis will be my go to spot, i wish i had an option to buy one of the units.

  • Unbelievable, the best condo I have ever stayed in in my entire life

    Casa de Compai is an amazing place to stay. Located in a nice quiet area, but yet still close to downtown Sosua and also a massive supermarket, it is really safe and secure as has a high wall, large gates and also a security guard there all the time. The owner lives on site so can help with any questions you have. There is a pool and every condo has a balcony or a terrace, so it is lovely to sit outside. The Wifi works all of the time and is super fast, and the televisions have more programmes on than I knew existed. But what makes this place so special is that the finishes and the care that have gone into the condos are second to none. Fabulous aircon, constant hot water, a full fitted kitchen with a full fridge/freezer, microwave, full stove with oven and even a blender. Everything you need to be really comfortable for a vacation. I would highly recommend these condos to anyone.

  • Peaceful, Relaxing, Beautiful Suites

    I am so happy to be the first to review this lovely property. I stayed for two weeks out of a month-long trip to the Dominican Republic and this was, by far, the best part of my stay. The rooms are new and modern, fully equipped kitchens, ceiling fans, air conditioning, TV's in livingroom and bedroom with a wide range of channels as well as YouTube and Netflix (need your own account). John, the owner, is friendly, helpful and accommodating. He has put a lot into this place and his goal is to make each and every guest feel welcome and wanting for nothing. The property is centrally located and is a 2 minute walk to a supermarket, dollar store and pharmacy in one direction, and 10 minutes to walk to the Sosua Beach or Playa Alicia in the other. Everything is close by. And the icing on the cake? Shadow!! The compound dog who loves everyone and makes her rounds every day to make sure she gets a cuddle and a treat. Travelling alone, I appreciated her company in the evenings! I highly recommend this reasonably priced yet quality property for your stay in Sosua.

  • I'm a long time Sosua visitor and I’m so happy I finally found the right place to stay with everything I would need! Walking distance to beaches, bars and restaurants. Great position in the center of Sosua and at the same time very quiet and peaceful. The complex is brand new and in excellent shape. Apartments are very well furnished and everything is working great! It’s safe with 24/7 security guard, fast wifi, cable tv with Netflix, AC, hot water, modern kitchen (I cook almost everyday) and lovely clean pool. All the staff and the owner John were very friendly making you feel like at home taking care of all the details. I will miss you especially Shadow ? I would strongly recommend it to anyone going to Sosua. I stayed 5 weeks and will 100% return here next times!!! Review from Trip adviser.

  • I stayed at John's rental from August 19 - 31. I arrived early, there was no problem checking in. I picked John' s place, due to the proximity to everything, gym, restaurants, grocery stores, and the beach. John was a great host and I really appreciated his hospitality. The rental was a 1 bedroom. The rental had everything I needed, to really enjoy my stay. The apartment was new and modern, which is one thing that I definitely liked. There is Security 24/7, the premises is well secured in a very safe area. If you are looking for a great place to stay, this one worth staying at, honestly. Once you stay here you will see why renters come back to rent.

  •   This is a great place. John runs a great operation and he is a great source of local info. Any issues were quickly resolved. Property is safe and secure. Apartment itself was incredible with cable tvs, extremely comfortable bed, kitchen, etc. I highly recommend.

  • Stayed here a month with my husband in the studio unit. Our time here was excellent, the unit has everything you need. Clean, comfy bed, towels provided, cleaning once a week (got long term stays only I believe) 24hr security, walking distance to grocery stores, bars, restaurants and of course the beach l. John is an amazing and pleasant hosts. Quick to reply to any questions or concerns you may have. I would recommend this place to friends and family and would definitely stay here again! Thank you!

    I have stay several other places in Sousa, but my stay in John’s studio was a very pleasant experience. Being that I had planned my trip at the last minute, I was looking for something different than the places I had stayed in the past. I found it at Casa De Compai. The price was right and amenities were outstanding. The location is excellent, not to from the center of town and the beach, but far enough that you sit back and relax. My only knock, is that I wish I had taken the one bedroom. Which I plan on doing on my next stay.

    This is one of the nicest places I have found to stay at. John is a amazing host with his dog shadow. Shadow will always make you feel welcome by wanting to play with you all the time. If you have any problems while there or need to find anything John is more than willing to help out. The staff is very friendly. I felt my stuff was Extremely secure with all the cameras watching over the place along with 24hr guard security. I am Definitely coming back to this place and recommend to anyone.

  • Hi John, Brian and I really appreciated your eagerness to help this spring when we missed our flight and our bank card was eaten by the ATM. You were our saviour that we never expected to find so far away from home. Casa de Compai was an oasis we didn’t expect. Brian enjoyed laying around the pool, tinkering with your Bbq and re-arranging your planters….channeling his inner Feng Shui. Thank you for being there and helping make our vacation wonderful.     I’m back! Mr. Easy724, is here again at last. Ya know I think I’ve figured out that the best time to go to the Caribbean is the, I think the best time to go to the Caribbean is the last 2 weeks in April and the first 2 weeks in May which it the time myself and 5 friends were there. after that it’s anybody’s guess. The Casa De Compai is a little condominium complex a few blocks up and a couple of blocks off the main drag of Pedro Clisante in Sosua, Dominican Republic. A super safe place to stay that is in walking distance of everything. There are about (I could be wrong) 10 condos of various sizes on the premises and a small swimming pool of which I was able to avail myself a few times, oh yeah and a barbecue grill. Want to take a look, just go to casadecompai.com or my favorite, TripAdvisor. The rooms are very comfortable and have all the comforts of home, nice TV’s, modern kitchens, nice beds, wifi and most importantly air conditioning, which I didn’t have to use that much because the weather was perfect. It rained a couple times while my buddies and I were there. In the Dominican Republic it can be a gully washer one minute and after that the sun comes back out and it’s like it never happened. But I digress, I did say it was in walking distance of everything right? Well if you need to go to the supermarket or pharmacy just walk out of the front gate turn right and then almost an immediate left and walk about 2 long blocks if I remember correctly and straight ahead you’ll be looking at a very good supermarket, a pharmacy and also a place to exchange your money, how about that? Want to go to the beach? Just walk out the front gate this time turn left walk up to Pedro Clisante, turn left again walk a few blocks down Pedro Clisante (here you’ll have to ask John the owner, proprietor when you get there which street you turn right on off Pedro Clisante to get to the beach). It’s only about a 10 to 15 minute walk. Pedro Clisante is the main drag where most of the nightlife happens in Sosua. As I said it’s pretty safe in the area I even walked up Pedro Clisante back to the condos alone a couple of nights when my friends decided to stay out a little longer. I Can’t say enough about John, he was a most gracious and terrific host he did everything to make our stay at the Casa de Compai a great one. So, if you’re planning a trip down to Sosua Dominican Republic anytime soon you might want to check out the Casa de Compai. If you do be sure to say hello Sombra she is John’s little 4 legged welcoming committee, give her a piece of bacon and you’ve got a friend for life! The bottom line, would I stay there again? Absolutely!!!

  • We had the best time at Casa De Compai! The place was beautiful and a wonderful home away from home. It was so nice getting up in the morning and walking down the street for breakfast. Lounging by the pool was so calm & relaxing especially with Shadow hanging out. The other guests were nice. The staff were great. Our host John couldn’t have been better. Our condo unit had everything you needed including 1 1/2 bathrooms. Yay! It was so nice being able to walk to the beach, restaurants & bars. Everything was close & easy & inexpensive ? Great Time was had by all?

    I stayed with John for one month starting Nov 21. Apart from offering a great value for the price he asks for, John is also a great host, you couldn't possibly ask for more friendliness. As already indicated his rooms are great, I had two bathrooms, a sleeping room and a living room with a fully equipped kitchen. Not to forget that he offers complimentary drinking water in the room - after you have stayed elsewhere and either had to carry lots of water or pay crazy prices in a hotel bar, you will never underestimate the value of drinking water always present in your room. All the staff are great, friendly and more than helpful. With a special mention to his maid, Gualine. Will come back for sure!

    Stayed here again for the second time for a month. What a great place home away from home. John the owner is always available and willing to help with anything needed. Very quite just off the Main Street. I am definitely going back. Would not stay anywhere else but here. Very clean place feels like a little community all other guests are very nice and willing to help each other out. If you are going to sosua. Trust me STAY HERE !!! You wont regret it.

    Amazing place to stay!!

    Where to start...!! John the landlord was easy to communicate with from the get go. We used WhatsApp but he is available with regular email also. He arranged a taxi pickup from the airport, cost $25 U.S. When we got to the condo he was waiting with his very lovable companion, Shadow. He checked us in and gave us all the info we needed for the apartment and then gave us a quick tour of the area so we could get our bearings and then took us to the Super Pol supermarket so we could get some necessities including booze. His condo is a home away from home. There are 9 condos around a lovely clean pool. The one bedroom condo we had was spacious. The living/kitchen/dining area is open and spacious as is the bedroom with a huge walkin closet to hang clothes and tuck away suit cases. The bed was king size with pillow top, oh so comfy! One and a half bathrooms. Tvs in living room and bedroom. We were able to get CNN and Netflix, both important to us but I think you have to take your own stick for Netflix. The location is amazing, just outside of town but only a 4 minute walk to the closest restaurant and town. The supermarket is about a 5 minute walk. Air conditioning worked great although we didn't use it all the time. There are fans in both rooms which also kept the rooms cool. The water cooler is unlimited. I think we went through 2 and a half bottles. We barely saw anyone at the pool but we enjoyed using it as much as we could. Nice comfy loungers. BBq for everyone to use. Cleaning staff were great, rooms are kept immaculate. Security on site, always felt very safe and John is around more often than not. And Shadow... what to say about Johns lovable companion that he adopted. She is the sweetest dog we have ever met. She actually spent a couple of nights with us. All in all, we really loved staying here for Christmas and New Years and will return when we can! Thanks John!
