ohn (Compai) place is a very modern, clean, up to date with all accommodations and in a very secure location that is in walking distance to everything you will need including the beaches. The pool area is very inviting and nice area to relax along with the rocking chairs outside of the apartment. With AC, fans, 1 and 1/2 baths, great internet, TV in living & bedroom, king bed, full kitchen and the price and the customer service provided by John – you can not beat it. I highly recommend John’s place.

It’s located comfortably within walking distance to all the amenities you need; supermarket, beach, banking, entertainment, local bars and restaurants. It has great decor from the exterior to the interior. It’s peaceful, clean, comfortable, great WiFi and secure. Jon will give you the warmest welcome and make you feel at home.

I’ve been going to that area since 2008 and stayed at many of the establishments. Johns place is the best it’s clean – safe – affordable and he makes you feel like family. All the guest where like my family the staff is great. Location is prime just a quick walk to 3 beaches and a quicker Moto ride. John was very responsive to any questions and the guy drove me to the airport . It’s also close to the supermarket if you wan to cook… I’ll defiantly be back thanks again John

First time staying at Casa de Compai September 2020. The condominium is in a great location, well kept, very clean and very secure. I stayed in a one room bedroom near the pool. The room had everything I needed. 1.5 bathrooms, full kitchen with a stove / oven / large fridge / blender and coffee maker and was close to the swimming pool. Casa de Compai is close to a grocery store and money exchange (Super Pola and Caribe Express). It is also close to breakfast spots and restaurants. John was attentive to all questions and needs.

We stayed at Casa De Compai for just over 6 months . It was a good place to be ! John is the owner of Casa De Compai. He takes great care and pride in his complex. The pool is pristine. There is great WiFi . Back up power and water , security and housekeeping. There is a desk area in the bedroom . The location is wonderful you are right within walking distance of everything ! Restaurants, bars, beaches (4) , groceries. They have lot’s of entertainment around town. Murals are popping up adding a pleasant feeling to the area. The weather is pretty much perfect . Warm in the day cooling off at night .It’s a great place to visit or maybe stay to work or live.Leslie

John was a fantastic host. He had us picked up at the airport and after we settled in he showed us around Sousa best places to go and shop and how to get to the beach. His condo is in a great location walking distance to everything. John kept on touch to make sure everything was ok and his cleaning lady was awesome. We had to leave a week early due to government travel restrictions and John did everything to help us. He made sure we had a taxi and he has touched base with us since we got home to make sure we did get home safely and then a few days later to make sure we were ok. Outstanding service. Highly recommend his condo.

This is the third time we have been to casa de compai and once again we were spoiled with the loyalty of the owner and fantastic quality, not only in the room but also around the complex, with well manicured flowers, shrubbery and trees. John has really done a fantastic job and having the 24/7 security makes you feel safe to the extent that even when in the pool, no need to lock your door, let alone close it. Even quick jaunts to the local store we always felt like we were at home. Here is a key thing though which many would take for granted about the place. Cleanliness. This place is spotless and the reason why I say take for granted is that you would want the same for your home, so you expect it. You wont be disappointed! With a fantastic backup generator for the occasional outage, a quiet street and a boat load of windows in the rooms for casually gazing out and getting that morning sunshine in, this is all my wife and I needed. Walking distance to everything. Wow – we are going to do it again!!!

Johns place is located within walking distance to beaches, shopping, Bars and restaurants. The pool is very nice and laundry and cleaning services are on site. Security and other staff are awesome folks. The apartment is clean and well equipped. I would not hesitate to book with John for future trips.

I enjoyed my stay at and John was a great host. John was on the property when I arrived to help me get checked in, after he scheduled for a taxi to pick me up. Upon arrival, he helped me get situated in the place quickly so that he can provide me with a brief tour of Sosua to get me familiar with the area and started off to a great vacation. The property is a secured property that requires a key fob to enter and exit. In addition, there is an armed security officer in the front and back of the property for safety. Nevertheless, they are guest friendly –in the event that you meet some cool friends and want to return to the property to play card games on the balcony, relax poolside, or have some drinks. I think the property is located in the heart of the city to where there are many things in walking distance (stores, banks, salons, massage parlors, barber shops, etc.). And of course, everything else a $2 motorconcho ride away. John checked on me a few times during my stay to ensure I was having a great time and not experiencing any challenges. He was very responsive to texts and helpful all around. He arrived during my check out as well to see me off. I had a great experience and will certainly stay again at one of his properties!

Peace of Mind!!!!!
I was all, but though with the hustle and bustle of Sosua, that is before I knew of CASA DE COMPAI. This trips purpose was to link up with friends, not seen in years.
The plan was to meet at a place called CASA DE COMPAI. Wow! What a tranquil place to stay.
I was greeted (personally) by a Mr. John Kumpel owner/operator of this “home away from home” type hotel.
John is the most gracias host that I have ever encountered. Rooms are very clean, well cared for, as well as grounds landscaping perfectly manicured.
Mr. Kumpel has a partner by the name “Shadow. What a friendly smart dog. Even Shadow has top notch greeting and hosting skills.
John, thanks again.

Just spent a great time at Casa de Compai with our fantastic host John Kumpel. Within minutes of arriving we felt warm and welcomed by John and his faithful companion Shadow. We had the 2 bedroom suite and with it’s spacious patio and living area, we felt like we were at our second home away from home. Quality and cleanliness were top notch, with 24 hour security, BBQ and the genuine feeling that the owner cares about the place. Always seeing “Watchy” trimming bushes and shrubs, ensuring the place is visually appealing – which, by the way, it is. And from a visual aspect the soft blue paint is welcoming to the eyes. Comfy beds and all amenities. Spending some time out “on the town” John provided us with a wealth of information about his operations and the community. Off the main street it offers a peaceful experience yet close to everything. If we ever needed anything John was always there for us. Great WiFi, fiber optic TV with plenty of channels. Just recently the sidewalk was rebuilt and a motorbike rack installed at the entrance. Such a positive experience. Cannot say enough about this place which not only rivals Infinity Blu and Blue Garden but exceeds the experience of quality time in the Dominican. Would I stay there again? You bet!!!!

We had the best time at Casa De Compai! The place was beautiful and a wonderful home away from home. It was so nice getting up in the morning and walking down the street for breakfast. Lounging by the pool was so calm & relaxing especially with Shadow hanging out. The other guests were nice. The staff were great. Our host John couldn’t have been better. Our condo unit had everything you needed including 1 1/2 bathrooms. Yay!

Stayed here a month with my husband in the studio unit. Our time here was excellent, the unit has everything you need. I’m a long time Sosua visitor and I’m so happy I finally found the right place to stay with everything I would need! Walking distance to beaches, bars and restaurants. Great position in the center of Sosua and at the same time very quiet and peaceful. The complex is brand new and in excellent shape. Apartments are very well furnished and everything is working great! It’s safe with 24/7 security guard, fast wifi, cable tv with Netflix, AC, hot water, modern kitchen (I cook almost everyday) and lovely clean pool. All the staff and the owner John were very friendly making you feel like at home taking care of all the details. I will miss you especially Shadow ? I would strongly recommend it to anyone going to Sosua. I stayed 5 weeks and will 100% return here next times!!!

Casa de Compai is a condo complex consisting of nine units. Units 4-9 were recently finished in December 2017 and are thus brand new. They all share a pool with a shower and a BBQ as well as high-speed wifi, a power backup generator, a water filtration system and much more. Units 1-3 were finished in 2016, i believe, but are still state of the art. Unit 3, where i stayed for one month, is the biggest condo, with 2 bed rooms. I loved the place and can absolutely recommend it. Here are a couple of the reasons why: a) Location: The location is great as it’s located directly at the end of the “party mile” of Sosua. You can walk anywhere but it’s still quiet at night. To the center of the party mile in 5 minutes, to the main beach in 10 minutes, to a shopping mall with farmacy, supermarket, currency exchange and more within 3 minutes, to the next hospital (direction of Cabarete) in 8 minutes. Two banks within 3 minutes. A tip from me: Use banco progresso for withdrawing money, the daily maximum there is 30.000 DOP instead of the usual 10.000 and the fees are only 150 DOP. b) Security: The condo complex is gated with 24/7 security personnel. Each condo has a safe and the doors inside the condo are usually lockable, too. This condo #3 in particular has a balcony facing the street and the security guard. c) Furnishing: There are bed rooms, each with a queen sized bed, air conditioning, ceiling fan, TV and lots of room to store your things. One of the bedrooms has a safe. The kitchen resp. living room is spacious and has everything you need for preparing your own meals. c) The little extras: Each condo has a personal 5 mbps WiFi which is more than enough for streaming Netflix and the like. The TVs have a “Kodi” entertainment system with Live TV, Sports TV, Netflix, Youtube, Movies, TV Shows and much more. An on-site maid service can be purchased which will clean the condo for 700 DOP and do laundry for 50 DOP per pound. And if you’re an animal person, the best extra is probably “Shadow”, the adorable little black dog, that watches over the condo complex. d) Hospitality: This is what makes the place special for me. The owner, John Kumpel, is a great guy that goes out of his way to make his guests feel comfortable. He keeps busy but is always just a What sApp message away. I don’t want to set expectations but he always had helpful advice on restaurants, beaches, shopping and other places to see. He even took me out a couple of times and arranged a BBQ for the guests. Especially if you are a rookie in this town, his advice is invaluable. I will surely be coming back.

Stayed in John’s place for 11 days. Wouldn’t choose another place besides it. The price is unbelievable, especially for the quality of apartment john owns. Apartments are the same as pictured. Everything was within walking distance, I didn’t have any issues with water, electricity, or many other problems that present themselves at some of the other hotels/apartments in the area. John was always on call when needed and is sincerely just a really good guy. Don’t have any reservations on this location, you will enjoy your stay immensely.. it’s the only place i’ll be staying at for years to come in Sosua.

First of all I want to make sure I am very clear about John and his property; no matter what you read, hear from him or via the web it is an understatement. Casa De Compai is literally a diamond in the ruff right near everything you need. With only being 3 minutes walking distance from the popular Europa Bar, Sosua Lights nightclub, Super Pola Marketplace, and Caribe money exchange you cannot go wrong. In addition to the rooms and amenities is the atmosphere, but what really sells this place is the location of the property and the professionalism of the owner, staff, guest, and more importantly the quietness of the surrounding area. I can’t explain it, but once you walk inside the gate it’s like you are not even in Sosua. It’s really like you are at home, or at a resort just enjoying the weather, overlooking the pool, and drinking a beer (which I still owe John by the way). What I need you to know is I take things very seriously when it comes to spending my money. Before deciding on Casa De Compai I thoroughly did my research on the property and owner. I checked out the AirBnb reviews, (Hidden by Airbnb) , TripAdvisor, (Hidden by Airbnb) Maps, his website, and blog before deciding to even consider spending my money and doing business with him. Mind you the stay was not breaking the bank or anything, but this is how seriously I take doing business with someone regardless of the amount. Even after all this I was not sold. What sold me was when I actually met John. Aside from the property being excellent; the fact that John showed sincerity, appreciation for and toward his employees goes to show you the true character of a person. In addition the great things his employees said about him were out of this world. They truly valued him as an employer and had nothing, but great things to say that further added my conviction that I was vacationing at the right property. Here is really the part that shows character. John personally drove me to the Super Pola market, took me to the Caribe money exchange, showed me where the gym was located, and also gave me a rundown of the strip, bars, clubs, beaches and places to get good food. Now please understand that this is not included in the package, but the fact that he was so passionate and even willing goes to show a great deal on his character, which you visually see in and on the property. It’s really a part of him, but as I said don’t expect to be chauffeured. I was just at the right place at the right time. You may notice in this review I do not speak much on the insides of the unit or accommodations. The truth is there is no point because as I said the pictures, reading John’s descriptions, or even speaking to him will not do it justice.
While I was there I saw the pool being maintained and cleaned, beds getting additional support, and even when I wanted to have a farewell with John he was in Santiago handling business and purchasing items to add on and make the property better. He is the prime exactly that if you do what you love you will not have to work a day in your life.
The only issue I ever encountered with the property was having to leave, but the great thing is I know I have a home when I come back to visit.

I stayed at this tucked away gem for a week. Had a personal driver pick me up from the airport, he gave a tour of the town on the way to the casa! Casa de compai is centrally located, near the bars. It is a quiet little hideaway with a great pool. Staff was always avaliable the beds were very comfortable and the accommodation all modern! If you are a person who wants to interact with the people and experience their culture this is the place for you. Close to the beach, activities and great restaurants! Great time for someone who likes other cultures, if you like all inclusive probably not for you.

The facility was immaculate and the staff inviting. Location is 2 blocks from main strip and 8 minute walk to the classicos area. Had no problem getting around without a car rental. A/Cs keep the room chilly and plenty of fans. Appliances are brand new. Linens ard clean, washer dryer on sight for light packers, and plenty of spare towels. Look forward to staying again.

As a very frequent traveler to the Dominican Republic, I have been staying here for a while now and have to say that the room I stayed in was amazing. I loved the room, space, amenities, huge refrigerator, and the fact that you don’t have to get a whole bunch of supplies to maintain a good clean room. The location is great and good security too.
